The 2017 Kawasaki Z650 is a fitting replacement to the ER-6n

Kawasaki has just launched the Z650 in India, priced at Rs. 5.19 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The motorcycle replaces the ER-6n which has been discontinued globally to make way for the Z650. The new middle-weight street-fighter stands out on the looks front itself, taking design inspiration from the flagship Z bikes like the Z1000 and Z900 aka the Sugomi design. It looks beefy and features a new headlamp and tank for a macho appeal.

Featuring a new tubular frame and light swingarm, the Kawasaki Z650 sees a drop in weight thanks to the lightweight chassis. It features ABS as standard and also gets a slipper clutch (for the 6-speed gearbox) and adjustable shift light. The motorcycle is BS4 compliant.

The Kawasaki Z650 uses telescopic forks up front and adjustable monoshock at the rear with 120 and 160 section tyres at the front and rear respectively. The front disc is a dual 300 mm petal rotor while the rear uses a single 220 mm petal disc. The motorbike tips the scales at 186 kgs and has a seat height of 790 mm. The tank capacity is 15-litres.

The Kawasaki Z650 is powered by the same 649cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine as the ER-6n. With 67.2 BHP of power and 65.7 Nm of torque, this bike is down on power by 4 PS compared to its predecessor but the lightweight negates the reduction in power. We all are aware of how butter smooth and refined this powertrain is, and is also a screamer in the top-end of the rev band. The Kawasaki Z650 will compete against the Benelli TNT 600i and Hyosung GT650N in the Indian market.
