The 2017 TVS Akula 310 thankfully retains most of the design features from the menacing Akula 310 concept bike shown last year.

The BMW G310R is the entry-level performance motorcycle co-developed by the German marquee and our own home-grown TVS. Both the companies had very specific agendas with the development of the platform, BMW wanted to go mass market and TVS wanted a foothold in the premium mid-engine performance motorcycling segment. Thus at the 2016 Auto Expo, TVS won over the world with the gorgeous naked carbon-fibre clad Akula 310 concept. Now the Victor maker is finally ready with the production spec Akula 310 (likely to be called Apache 310) and is preparing a gala feast to throw open the bookings of the bike. And boy are we in for a treat!

Media reports have revealed that the production version of the TVS Akula 310 will be launched in July 2017. The motorbike has now also been spied in dealer yards and by the looks of it, the Apache 310 stays more or less similar to the concept we had seen and so much appreciated way back during the previous Auto Expo in Delhi. While the concept model from the Auto Show had several premium parts which are not seen even on litre-class flagships, the production motorcycle will have several eye-catching features. The motorcycles also get twin headlamps, the trademark gold-colored upside down front forks from the BMW G310R, and a ‘devil horn’ shaped tail-lamp.

As seen in the images, the positioning of the clip-on handlebar and footpegs signal a slightly relaxed riding position. The fuel tank has been chiselled sharply and will help the rider lock the leg while taking a corner. The production version of the TVS Akula 310, in comparison to the concept bike, gets a large windscreen and body which seems larger than the average motorcycle in the segment. The instrumentation in the production version of the Akula 310 remains the same with the vertically stacked LCD unit from the concept model.

The Akula 310 will be the first full-faired bike from the Apache maker. The upcoming TVS flagship will be competing against the KTM RC 200 and thus for better city riding, it might feature a detuned iteration of BMW’s G310 powertrain, which displaces 313cc and is coupled to a 6-speed gearbox. The single-cylinder engine is capable of producing 34 PS of maximum power and 28 Nm of torque.
