HMSI claims first and second spots in scooter and motorcycle segments respectively

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has been all over the news for obvious reasons. The Japanese maker has inched closer to home grown Hero MotoCorp intensifying the volume war to become the country’s largest 2-wheeler manufacturer. With 5.79 lakh units sold in April, Honda fell short of Hero by a mere 12,500 units.

Honda has set a target growth rate of 20% for this year, and if they achieve that, they’ll reach their aim of taking the number 1 spot. Last year the company posted a healthy growth of 12% against the industry’s 5%. Honda started this financial year with flying colours as it recorded a whopping 34% increase in April sales (compared to 2016).

By July, another assembly line (6 lakh units capacity) would be operational at Honda’s Karnataka plant, accounting to a total annual capacity of 6.4 million units. The new assembly line is set up to incorporate four new vehicles of which two are scooters and two are motorcycles. Honda also plans to strengthen its premium segment with the launch of Twin Africa.
