The RE Continental GT 750 is going to be an interesting product for India

Royal Enfield will be entering a whole new segment through the launch of its Continental GT 750. The motorcycle was first spotted testing in Europe and very recently was spotted in India as well. Royal Enfield confirms that the motorcycle will be launched by this year end putting the company against the likes of international players like Harley-Davidson and Triumph.

At an investors meet of its parent company (Eicher Motors) early this month, the top executives at Royal Enfield said that the upcoming motorcycle will have the performance for high-speed highway cruising and the motorcycle will be a global product. Every single offering from the brand till date has been a good highway cruiser, especially the Classic and the Thunderbird range.

Royal Enfield has not yet revealed the engine specs on the motorcycle officially but it is expected to sport a new 750cc, twin-cylinder, fuel-injected, engine that produces 45-50 HP of maximum power. The motorcycle will feature Pirelli tyres, twin exhausts and ABS is likely to be offered as optional.

However, in the domestic market bigger displacement motorcycles from Royal Enfield have not been that successful and account for less than 10 percent of total domestic sales. It’s the 350cc variants which form the bulk of RE’s sales in India whereas the export markets have a different story to tell. The export markets are dominated by 500cc and above models, so it will be interesting to see how the GT 750 fares in India.

Meanwhile, Royal Enfield is on an expansion spree. It recently entered the Brazilian market with the Bullet 500, Classic 500 and Continental GT. The company has a total of 25 exclusive stores internationally and intends to expand to 45 to 50 by this year end. Royal Enfield has identified Thailand, Brazil, Columbia and Indonesia as the 4 core markets for international expansion plans.
