As per Motor Vehicles Act, sale or registration of Olive Green and Navy Blue coloured vehicles is not permitted

Very recently there were reports that a Royal Enfield Classic 500 Battle Green colour motorcycle was spotted at a dealership in Bangalore. However, the model spotted is an export-only model.

Royal Enfield has reserved the Olive Green colour for the Indian Army and hence the Battle Green colour won’t be available in India. People who want to see how an Olive Green coloured Classic 500 looks, can watch some scenes of Yash Chopra’s Jab Tak Hain Jaan movie where the lead actor Shah Rukh Khan in a role of an Army officer uses an Olive Green coloured Classic 500.

As per our observations, both the Olive Green as well as Battle Green look very similar. Both come with green painted alloys. Our telephonic conversations with some dealerships in Bangalore also confirm that the Battle Green colour is not for sale in India. There were many reports that said the motorcycle was launched in India, however that isn’t true.

The Indian Motor Vehicles Act does not allow for the sale and registration of vehicles painted in Olive Green and Navy Blue colours. It also lays down a clause on vehicles purchased from the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Indian Navy, Assam Riffles or Coast Guard as Military Disposal Vehicle shall be repainted with colour other than Olive Green and Navy Blue and disruptive camouflage pattern, and such repainted colour shall conform to the colour specification laid down in these rules as applicable to a class or classes of motor vehicle.

The Classic 500 is available in India in a choice of 6 colours namely – Classic Silver, Classic Black, Classic Tan, Classic Squadron Blue, Classic Desert Storm and the Classic Chrome. Powering the Classic 500 is a 499cc single cylinder, air-cooled, fuel injected mill that comes coupled to a 5-speed gearbox. This motor is capable of producing 27.2 HP and 41.3 Nm of torque.

The motorcycle boasts of a 13.5-litre fuel tank and tips the scales at 195 kgs. It runs on 90 section tyre up front and 110 section tyre at the rear. Braking duties are via a 282 mm disc brake up front while the rear manages with a 153 mm drum unit.
