Volkswagen has unveiled the 2018 Polo that aims to conquer the Supermini Class in the international markets.

Chassis and Dimensions – The 2018 Volkswagen Polo sits on the modular MQB platform and is the largest Polo ever measuring 4053 mm in length, 1446 mm in height and 1751 mm in width. The wheelbase has increased by 94 mm and thanks to this there is ample cabin space, especially the knee room for the rear seat occupants inside the car. The boot space too has increased by 35-litres.

Exteriors – The 2018 Volkswagen Polo features a single slat chrome grille that merges with the headlamps on either side. The headlamps house the LED DRLs and have a smoked finish to them. The headlamps on the GTI version have red accents inside them that give it a mean look. Both the regular and the GTI Polo get snazzier diamond-cut alloys. While at the rear, the tail lamps get a new design with LED elements in them.

Interiors – The interiors too have a different story to tell altogether. The dashboard gets a new layout now and looks fresh with orange and red accents depending on the variant chosen. The 2018 Volkswagen Polo also is the first VW car to get the Active Info Display and it also gets a glass-surfaced infotainment system while the entry-level models getting a 6.5-inch display as standard.

Performance – Talking about the engines, the Polo will be offered with a 1.0-litre petrol which will be offered in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged versions starting from 65 HP and going up to 115 HP, a 1.5-litre TSI producing 150 HP and featuring Cylinder-on-Demand (COD) system. Powering the Polo GTI is a 2.0-litre petrol motor producing 200 HP of power that takes it 6.7 seconds from 0-62 MPH.

For the diesel, Volkswagen is offering a 1.6-litre TDI in 2 states of tune- 80 HP and 95 HP. The 1.0-litre petrol producing 115 HP, 1.5-litre TSI producing 150 HP, 2.0-litre petrol engine in the GTI and the 1.6-litre diesel producing 95 HP can be had with an optional DSG transmission. For the first time in a Polo, Volkswagen is also offering a 1.0-litre TGI natural gas engine.

Safety – The 2018 Volkswagen Polo is offered with a plethora of safety tech like Front Assist with City Emergency Braking, Pedestrian Monitoring, Speed Limiter and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. Active Cruise Control (on the DSG equipped models), Blind Spot Detection with Rear Traffic Alert and Park Assist come as optional.

Available in 5 trims, Trendline, Comfortline, Highline along with getting 2 new additional variants named the Beats and R-line versions. The Polo will be offered in 14 different exterior colours, 12 wheel designs ranging from 14-inch to 18-inch and 13 different decors for the dashboard.

Prices for the new Polo in Germany start at 12,795 Euros with Front Assist as standard.
