An owner of the Bajaj Dominar 400 has reported a case where the monoshock of his bike cracked while riding through a pothole.

Bajaj launched the Dominar 400 as a premium motorcycle in December last year. After its unveiling at the 2014 Auto Expo, Bajaj launched the Dominar 400 at a mouth-watering price tag. Being Bajaj’s flagship model, it is the most expensive and powerful motorcycle on sale from the company. It is powered by a 373.2cc engine shared with the KTM Duke 390, which comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox. It comes with full LED headlamp, ABS and other advanced features also.

According to the owner of a concerned Dominar 400, he had crossed a red signal and was riding at a leisurely pace when a pothole appeared. Unable to steer clear from the pothole, he had no choice but to pass over it. The mono-shock suspension on his Dominar 400 gave up on impact from crossing the pothole at 40 km/hr. Thankfully, he was riding his bike at a rather slow speed to have escaped unhurt. Had the bike faced such impact at a higher speed, results could have been disastrous.

A Bajaj Auto service centre has estimated the repair cost at Rs. 13,000/-. They even advised the owner to go for an insurance claim. What is shocking, though, is that the service centre has denied to replace the affected parts under vehicle warranty. Also, the owner added that alloy wheels were intact when he gave the bike to the service centre but were later found to be damaged.

The service centre is yet to raise the issue with Bajaj Auto. The company provides 2 years/30,000 kms standard warranty on the Dominar 400. Dishonouring warranty request without detailed evaluation of the issue is a matter of concern. Such major quality issues are life threatening and must be thoroughly inspected because they can affect an entire batch of vehicles.
