Suzuki is likely to launch a 150cc cruiser bike in India, later this year.

Suzuki GZ150 India Launch Speculated
Suzuki GZ150 is a cruiser motorcycle with raised handlebars and pillion backrest

Suzuki has tasted success in India with its Gixxer twins. Though they were not runaway hits, their sales performance can be safely termed as satisfactory. Apart from a couple of automatic scooters, Suzuki currently sells the Hayate and Gixxer range in India. Suzuki does not have a product in budget cruiser category, while Bajaj’s Avenger is the undisputed king of the segment. As a measure to rival the Avenger series, the company is planning to launch the GZ150 in India.

The GZ150 is a cruiser motorcycle which is 2250 mm long, 900 mm wide and 1160 mm tall. It features raised handlebars, telescopic forks at the front, rear shock absorbers and alloy wheels. A kerb weight of around 150 kgs will make the GZ150 convenient to ride and navigate. It looks more in line with Bajaj Avenger’s Cruise 220 version even though the engine capacity is at par with the Avenger Street 150.

Powered by a 149.5cc, air-cooled engine, the Suzuki GZ150 produces power and torque figures of 15.42 BHP and 11.2 NM respectively. As is the norm at this price point, the motor comes mated to a 5-speed transmission. The cruiser comes with an 18-inch wheel at the front, while the rear gets a smaller 16-inch rim with a fatter tyre to aid comfort. The low seat height, relaxed riding position, forward-set footpegs and pillion backrest are a clear giveaway of the bike’s identity and purpose.

Currently, the GZ150 is sold in other markets at a price lower than Gixxer SF. Since the price of Gixxer SF averages around the Rs. 1 lakh (on-road) mark in India, the GZ150 will land right in the Avenger territory when launched. Suzuki is trying to explore a category in India which finds limited customers.
