Daihatsu, Toyota’s low cost brand for the emerging markets seems to be interested to foray into the Indian markets. The automaker has approached a parts vendor that supplies parts to Datsun, to collaborate for product lines in India. Daihatsu has plans to develop a small car that will positioned below the Toyota Etios.

Toyota is in talks with Daihatsu to bring in a small car for emerging markets including India, considering the fact that the Japanese automaker too does not have a small car in its portfolio that could rival the Renault Kwid and Maruti Alto.

Toyota might even share its manufacturing facilities with Daihatsu for the production of the small car, however, a decision on that is yet to be taken. Daihatsu could even estabish a production line beside the Toyota Etios line at the Bidadi facility in Bangalore.

Daihatsu’s new small car is expected to make its debut at the 2020 Auto Expo with a sticker price of Rs. 3.4-4.5 lakhs.
