2018 Hyundai Verna India
The 2018 Hyundai Verna comes across as a significantly improved package

The 2018 Hyundai Verna has been launched in India and it is priced introductorily from Rs. 7.99-12.61 lakhs (ex-showroom). Entering its fifth generation, the Honda City and Maruti Ciaz rival has grown in terms of dimensions and underpins Hyundai’s K2 platform (the same platform on which the Elantra is based).

The 2018 Verna is in all glory a mini Elantra to look at. The projector headlamps with LED DRLs, the signature Hyundai Cascade design front grille and the wraparound LED tail-lights at the rear will remind you of the Elantra. Design wise, the sedan continues to adopt the Fluidic 2.0 design language with clean flowing lines all over the car. The 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels add a lot of character and premium feel to the sides while the tail-section is slightly upswept.

The fifth generation Verna gets a driver-centric cabin with the centre console slightly tilting towards the driver. The dashboard layout will remind you, again, of the Elantra. The 2018 Verna gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Arkamys premium sound system. The infotainment system is also Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible. Other goodies on offer are an electric sunroof, ventilated front seats and a rear AC vent.

The 2018 Hyundai Verna comes with a choice of petrol and diesel engines. The petrol engine is a 1.6-litre dual VTVT engine that makes 123 HP of power and 151 Nm of torque while the diesel is a 1.6-litre U2 CRDI engine that makes 126 HP of power and 260 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox. The vehicle clearly has the advantage of bigger and powerful engines (both petrol and diesel) when compared to the competition. Hyundai is not offering the 1.4-litre engines which were available in the previous generation car.

The fifth generation Verna gets McPherson struts with coil springs at the front and a coupled torsion beam axle at the rear. Braking is via discs at the front and drum brakes at the rear. Available in 4 new (Polar White, Fiery Red, Siena Brown and Flame Orange) and 3 carried over (Stardust, Sleek Silver, and Phantom Black) colours, the 2018 Verna comes in 6 variants (including automatic) each in petrol and diesel.

The 2018 Hyundai Verna comes with a long equipment list which includes:

* Projector headlamps with cornering function and LED DRLs
* 3 elements LED tail lamps
* Projector fog lamps
* 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels
* Front ventilated seats
* Electric Sunroof
* Hands-free smart trunk & voice recognition

* 7-inch AVN with IPS panel

The new Hyundai Verna is offered with a 3 years/unlimited kms warranty with free roadside assistance. The automaker is also offering 3 free map updates for the car.
