In the world sales for the January 2017 to June 2017 period, Renault-Nissan beat Volkswagen by over 1.5 lakh units.

The Renault-Nissan alliance has sold more units combined than the Volkswagen Group in the first half of 2017. Nissan, Renault, Mitsubishi, Dacia and the other brands like Infiniti, Venucia, Datsun and Lada combined sold 52,68,079 units in the January 2017 to June 2017 period while the German automaker sold a total of 51,15,900 units.

The alliance saw an increase in sales across all brands with Renault and Nissan both growing at 10.4 percent and 5.6 percent respectively. Renault saw an increase in sales for its Clio, Duster, Megane, Captur and Sandero, and likewise for Nissan badged models like the X-Trail, Sentra, Qashqai and Teana. While Renault sold 18,79,288 new vehicles, Nissan sold 28,94,488 new cars and trucks globally.

Mitsubishi sold close to 4,95,000 units with most of the demand coming from the Outlander SUV globally and the Pajero Sport in the ASEAN region. Electric vehicles too saw a significant rise in sales. Sales of the Nissan Leaf, Renault Zoe and Mitsubishi i-Miev combined stood at 4,81,151 units (including the plug-in hybrid versions of the Mitsubishi Outlander).

The United States, China, Japan, Mexico, the UK, Canada, Russia, France, Italy and Germany in this order were the best markets for Nissan while France, Russia, Italy, Germany, Spain, Turkey, Brazil, Iran, the UK and Argentina were the best markets for Renault. India doesn’t feature in the top selling markets for these brands who use their Chennai production facility to produce cars for exports.
