2020 Honda City Engine Details Revealed

The next-gen Honda City will be offered with 2 petrol and 1 diesel engine options.

The 5th-gen Honda City will be internationally revealed by the end of next month. The car will be available on sale in Thailand and other ASEAN markets first. In the 2nd half of 2020, it will launch in India. It has been spotted testing in India as well as in Thailand.

The new Honda City will be sold globally with 3 engine options- a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine, a 1.5-litre petrol mill and a BS6-compliant 1.5-litre diesel powertrain. The first powertrain will be primarily aimed at the Thailand market. It will produce 120 PS and feature a turbocharger from Borg Warner. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual as well as a CVT.

The 1.5-litre petrol alternative will be mated to Honda’s new i-MMD mild-hybrid that is likely to make its debut with the Jazz in October 2019. While the power and torque figures are unknown, it is expected that Honda will offer this engine with a CVT and a 6-speed manual gearbox as well.

The 3rd engine option will be the 1.5-litre diesel engine that is on offer with the current-gen Honda City. In its BS4 state, it produces 100 PS and 200 Nm of torque. However, the next-gen Honda City will be offered with a BS6-compliant version of this engine. It will be offered with a 6-speed manual and a CVT as well.

The next-gen Honda City will feature a large touchscreen system while most of the dashboard design will remain the same.
