2021 Ducati Monster Spied On Test

The new exhaust looks unfinished but will likely reduce the weight of the bike

The 2021 Ducati Monster was spotted recently near the company’s test facility in Germany. While the Ducati Monster is one of the most user-friendly naked superbikes one can invest their money on, a large majority of people will agree that a major overhaul is long overdue.

Sadly for some and gladly for others, the 2021 Ducati Monster looks a lot like the old model. The biggest change we noticed right away was the absence of the trellis frame. The trellis frame has always been a prime feature of the Monster family but for 2021, it seems that there will be a new cast aluminium chassis instead.

The bike also gets shorter twin exhausts which contribute to the fact that the bike now looks sleeker and less bulky. The exhausts have an uncanny resemblance to the MV Agusta Brutale though. This might result in a overall weight reduction of the bike.

In a close glance, one can also notice the slimmer swingarm setup which might contribute to additional weight loss. The test subject also seems to have a different set of alloy wheels which hints at a new wheel design for the updated Ducati Monster.

The particular bike in the photos seems to be the Ducati 821. While the test bike looks to have a water-cooled engine, it will be interesting to see if this is the case with the smaller sibling, the Ducati 797. Currently, the 797’s engine is the only air-cooled engine in the Ducati Monster line-up.

The current-gen Monster 821 hosts a liquid-cooled L-Twin motor which makes 109 PS and 86 Nm of torque. 2021 Ducati Monster variants will likely retain the same power figures for the Euro-5/BS6 variant as well.

The current-gen Ducati Monster line-up comes with different riding modes, power modes, ABS from Bosch and Ducati Traction Control (DTC). In addition to these, we expect the 2021 variants to come with Cornering ABS, IMU-based TC, quickshifter and auto-blipper.

In conclusion, the 2021 Ducati Monster seems to have changed slightly from the previous version. The question is, is it enough to keep up with the other bikes in this segment? We don’t think so. Its rivals like the KTM Duke series look much fresher and will definitely turn more heads in a crowd. But we await the finished product and hope it stands up to the Ducati name-tag.

Ducati will unveil the 2021 Ducati Monster virtually during the Ducati World Premiere 2020 followed by the launch in India somewhere in the summer of 2021. Currently, the Ducati Monster retails at Rs. 10.99 lakhs (ex-showroom) and one can expect the 2021 Ducati Monster to be a little dearer than this.
