New Gen Maruti Alto Spied

Development of the next-generation Alto is well underway

The spied 2022 model year Maruti Alto looks a touch bigger than the current model

The new generation Maruti Alto, expected to be launched in 2022, has been spied and it could be based on a modified version of the automaker’s HEARTECT platform.

Undoubtedly one of the most popular 4-wheelers to ever be sold in the country, the Alto has been pushed from the top spot in terms of sales in recent times by its stablemates as buyers steadily move toward premium offerings.

The second-generation model of the Alto has been on sale since 2012 (the small car was first introduced in the year 2000) and the time is ripe for it to be replaced.

This recently spied 2022 Maruti Alto does look to have grown in size compared with the current model, which should translate into better interior space.

Both generations of the Alto have fetched very good sales for Maruti Suzuki

The small car’s design will be brought to date and it could very well adopt a more curvaceous exterior styling like the soon-to-be launched Celerio and Baleno.

Inside, there should be a new dashboard, an infotainment touchscreen (the current model has a 7-inch unit), smartphone connectivity, new switchgear, different upholstery and, possibly, new seats.

What’s more, more emphasis is likely to be provided for safety and the 2022 Alto should come with a sound structure, dual front airbags, ABS and EBD, as standard, while ISOFIX mounts should be present too.

The car would be powered by the same 0.8-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine putting out 47 BHP and 69 Nm of torque. It will come mated to a 5-speed manual and there should be a CNG derivative of it on offer as well.
