Next-Gen Maruti Wagon R Global Debut Set To Happen In December

The new model should be an evolution of the current Wagon R

One month after the new Wagon R, the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto’s world premiere will likely take place

The 2022 Suzuki Wagon R, which will be sold under Maruti in India, is scheduled to officially appear in December of this year.

Based on the HEARTECT platform, the new model, which will be the seventh-generation version of the hatchback to be globally unveiled, is said to be a more refined car than the current Wagon R.

Suzuki has worked on making the hatchback ride and handle better than its predecessor, which would bode well for the Wagon R’s future in India.

Given the fact that the current Wagon R is larger than its predecessor, the new model might be very similar in size, while looking different both on the outside and inside. There should possibly be more features on offer as well.

In India, the 2022 Maruti Wagon R should retain the current model’s powertrain options which comprises 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder motor (67 BHP and 90 Nm) and a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder engine (82 BHP and 113 Nm) options, both of which are teamed to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Maruti does ensure to get the Alto right every time

Maruti Suzuki is also busy developing the new Alto, which was spotted recently and now, it turns out, Suzuki will reveal the ninth-generation (globally) Alto come January 2022.

Based on a modified version of the automaker’s HEARTECT platform, the new Alto will be bigger than the model it replaces and in Japan at least, will be equipped with a new 3-cylinder petrol engine in addition to a mild-hybrid powertrain.

However, the Indian model should continue to use the 796cc FD8 3-cylinder petrol motor (a CNG derivative of which will also be made available) and, in addition, should borrow the 1.0-litre motor from the Wagon R for higher variants.

Before these cars make their world debut, however, Maruti will introduce the new generation Celerio in India.
