2026 Maruti Baleno Facelift Spotted Testing For The First Time

A camouflaged test mule of the updated Maruti Baleno has been spotted testing in India, indicating that the premium hatchback is set to receive a mid-cycle refresh. First introduced in its second-generation form in 2022, the Baleno appears to be due for a design and feature update to stay competitive in its segment.

Spy images suggest that the most noticeable changes are at the front. The test vehicle features a revised fascia with a sleeker grille design, possibly incorporating a slim chrome strip connecting the headlamps. The bumper has also been reworked, although the overall lighting setup, including projector LED headlamps and signature daytime running lights, appears unchanged. Interestingly, the fog lamps seen on the current model are not visible on the test mule.

From the side, the hatchback retains its familiar silhouette, including the same alloy wheel design seen on lower trims of the current version. Certain camouflage elements on the windscreen hint that the test vehicle could be a CNG variant, suggesting that Maruti is continuing to evaluate alternative fuel options alongside petrol.

At the rear, the overall design remains largely similar to the outgoing model. Elements such as the wraparound LED tail-lamps, roof-mounted spoiler and rear wiper are carried over, although minor revisions to the bumper may be introduced as part of the facelift.

Inside, there are no major visual changes visible in the test mule. The dashboard layout appears identical to the current car, featuring a free-standing touchscreen infotainment system, trapezoidal air vents and a multi-function steering wheel. However, the facelifted version is expected to receive updated interior themes and materials to enhance the perceived quality.

Feature-wise, the Baleno is likely to retain key equipment such as a head-up display, automatic climate control and a multi-information display. There is also a possibility of new additions like a single-pane sunroof and ambient lighting, which are increasingly common among its competitors.

Under the hood, no significant changes are anticipated. The facelift is expected to continue with the existing 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, offered with both manual and AMT gearbox options. The CNG variant, currently available on select trims, is also likely to be carried forward.

While an official launch timeline has not yet been confirmed, the updated Baleno is expected to be priced slightly higher than the current model. Upon launch, it will continue to compete with rivals such as the Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz and Toyota Glanza.
