2026 Mercedes S-Class Facelift Launched In India, Priced From Rs. 2.20 Crores

Mercedes-Benz has introduced the updated 2026 S-Class in India, with prices starting at Rs. 2.20 crores (ex-showroom). The luxury sedan receives a range of design revisions, technology enhancements and a new plug-in hybrid powertrain. At launch, the model is available exclusively in the S 450e variant.

Bookings for the updated S-Class are now open, while customer deliveries are expected to begin around the festive season later this year.

The biggest change for the Indian-market S-Class is the introduction of the S 450e plug-in hybrid. It combines a 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and a 22kWh battery pack. The system produces a combined 435 HP and 680 Nm of torque and sends power to the rear wheels through a 9-speed automatic transmission.

Mercedes-Benz claims the S 450e can travel up to 115 km in electric-only mode under standard testing conditions. The luxury sedan is also claimed to accelerate from 0-100 km/hr in 5.7 seconds. According to the manufacturer, the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in around 20 minutes using a compatible 60kW charger.

Globally, the S-Class is also offered with a mild-hybrid petrol powertrain, though this version has not yet been introduced in India.

While the overall shape of the S-Class remains largely unchanged, Mercedes-Benz has made several visual updates. The front grille has been redesigned and now incorporates additional chrome detailing, while illuminated elements are available as part of the package.

The updated Digital Light headlamps feature revised lighting graphics and the rear LED tail lamps also receive new illuminated patterns. The front bumper has been reworked and the luxury sedan is offered with fresh alloy wheel designs and additional paint options.

Inside, the S-Class gains updated dashboard elements, revised trim finishes and an upgraded infotainment setup. India continues to receive the long-wheelbase version, which prioritises rear-seat comfort.

The rear seats can recline significantly and buyers can opt for a four-seat executive configuration. Ventilation, heating and massage functions are available for all occupants. Mercedes-Benz also states that further improvements have been made to cabin insulation to reduce noise and vibration levels.

Extended ambient lighting now covers more areas of the interior, including the dashboard, centre console and rear passenger compartment.

A key highlight of the updated S-Class is the introduction of Mercedes-Benz’s new MBUX Superscreen arrangement. It includes a 14.4-inch central OLED touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a separate 12.3-inch passenger display.

The system runs the latest MB.OS software and features expanded artificial intelligence integration through the MBUX virtual assistant. Other technology additions include augmented reality navigation, over-the-air software updates and rear entertainment screens with support for streaming, gaming and video conferencing.

Additional equipment includes a Burmester 4D audio system, wireless smartphone connectivity, connected-car functions and four-zone climate control.

The updated S-Class comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of driver assistance systems. Features include adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist and a surround-view camera system.

Mercedes-Benz also offers adaptive air suspension with E-Active Body Control. Rear-wheel steering is fitted as standard, while buyers can choose an upgraded system with a greater steering angle to improve manoeuvrability at lower speeds.

With the addition of plug-in hybrid technology and a broader focus on digital features, the updated S-Class aims to strengthen its position in the flagship luxury sedan segment, where it competes with the BMW 7 Series.
