6 Years After Showcase, Bajaj Qute Launch In 2018

Bajaj Qute Turkey Launch

Bajaj Qute launch likely to happen in the coming 3-6 months, will be sold as a commercial vehicle.

The Qute is already being exported to close to a dozen countries

Bajaj Auto is all set to launch the Qute quadricycle in India in the next 3-6 months. A top executive of the company confirms the same. The Bajaj Qute was first showcased at the 2012 Auto Expo i.e. six years back. While the vehicle is exported to close to a dozen countries, in India, its launch was delayed due to the regulatory hurdles. Earlier this year, the Supreme Court asked the Centre to consider the suggestions made on the issue of safety and emission standards.

The final notification on the quadricycle policy is likely to be out in the coming week and Bajaj will wait for the homologation certificate from the testing agency, Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), to plan the rollout of the vehicle in India. After encountering various courts and cases for a period of 3-5 years, the company sees no more roadblocks and is optimistic about the launch of the Qute.

Once the Centre comes out with the final notification, Bajaj will reach out to the road transport offices to sort out the modalities of rolling out the quadricycle. The Qute will be sold as a commercial vehicle and is actually a safer alternative to the 3-wheelers. It comes powered by a 217cc, DTS-i, single-cylinder, water-cooled engine with a closed loop fuel injection system. The engine produces 13.5 PS of power and 19.6 Nm of torque. The motor comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
