Piaggio has announced that it will soon commence production of Aprilia SXR 160 scooter at its Baramati plant in Maharashtra.

This development also points towards the launch of the 2-wheeler, which is likely to happen, in December, after the first batch of SXR 160 rolls out of the production line.

The much-awaited scooter was first unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020 and has been designed in Italy, but for the Indian market.

It sure does have a unique look, with sharp body lines, that is complemented with 3 coat body paint finish, signature graphics, matt black design trims and dark chrome elements.

Headlights on the scooter are twin LED units that merge with front blinkers, while at the back there are wrap-around LED taillights with integrated indicators.

According to its maker, the scooter has an ergonomic, art leather suede seat with grey and red stitching, while the handlebar is raised. Further, it will come with a 5.7-inch digital cluster with smartphone connectivity (optional extra) that will help owners locate, raise security alarm and even immobilise the vehicle.

Aprilia says the SXR 160’s suspension will be tuned for a smoother ride, but adds that the rear shock can be adjusted and set to one’s liking.

Powered by a 160cc BS6 engine, the SXR 160 will also come with ventilated disc brakes with twin pot calipers and ABS.

Further, the automaker states that it is also concentrating on fast expansion of its dealer network in the country. At present, the brand has over 250 dealerships and its target is to expand it to over 400 outlets.
