Audi A1 5-Door Hatchback Revealed

We know that the German car maker, Audi is planning to come up with a 5-door version of the A1. Now, the first official pictures of the soon to be launched Audi A1 hatchback have been released. The concept of the 5-door model was showcased by Audi at the 2008 Paris Motor Show as the A1 Sportback Concept. The production version of the Audi A1 5-door remains almost the same when compared to the 3-door model at 3.95 m long, 1.42m tall and a wheelbase of 2.4m. The Audi A1 is a 4-seater but the German automaker will put in a fifth seat on request (at no extra cost). The headroom and shoulder room have been increase by 1 cm over the 3-door model. Furthermore, the height and width have been increase by 6mm to increase interior space.

The exterior styling of the A1 Sportback is nothing much to be talked about. It is similar to the A1 3-door model. The only change is the addition of 2 more doors. However, the Sportback is going to be available in contrasting roof colours. The interiors of the Sportback are also the same as the 3 door model, the only difference being that it is now easier to access the rear seats. The A1 Sportback will be available in the Eurpoean market with the same engine line up as the 3-door model including the 1.2-liter TFSi and the 1.4-liter turbocharged petrol engines. In diesel, there is going to be an option of a 1.6-liter TDi. Audi might launch the A1 in India to compete with BMW’s Mini and Mercedes-Benz’ B-Class. We can expect the Audi A1 to be showcased at the 2012 Auto Expo.
