Audi India Recalls 6758 Units Of A4 Sedan Over Airbag Issue

The 6758 Audi A4 units recalled are part of the global recall exercise involving 8,50,000 units of the A4 sedan, All-road and Wagon models over an airbag deployment issue caused by a software glitch.

The recall will have dealers update the software which is said to take 3 minutes

Following the global recall issued for the A4 sedan, All-road and wagon body styles last month, Audi India too has initiated a recall for the A4 sedan that involves 6758 units of the luxury car manufactured between November 2011 and October 2014. The recall was initiated after it was found out that a glitch in the car’s software would prevent airbags from deploying in case of a collision. Stating further on the matter, Audi India said that the recall will require its dealers to update the software in the car with no parts needing a replacement.

Dealers will get in touch with the affected Audi A4 owners across the country and schedule an appointment to make the necessary update. The company said of having no knowledge of deaths or injuries that were caused by the defective software. The recall involves 8,50,000 units of the A4 globally with 2,50,000 units built for the Chinese market and 1,50,000 cars were for Germany. Last month Audi also recalled 382 units of the Q7 SUV in India as part of the global recall exercise for faulty vacuum line in the brake system.

Over 7 lakh vehicles have been recalled in India since SIAM started the voluntary recall for safety related issues on vehicles. Manufacturers including Maruti, Toyota, Ford, Honda, Mahindra and many more have initiated at least one recall in the past couple of years. More recently, Honda recalled 2338 units of the Amaze and Brio as well as the new CR-V over defective airbags, while Nissan too recalled 9000 units of the Micra and Sunny for defective airbag issues. Both the recalls initiated were part of a global exercise. Luxury manufacturers like BMW have also been under the scanner that sourced airbags from safety equipment provider Takata.
