Bajaj Auto Plans Upgrades For 125-160cc Motorcycles

Bajaj Auto has announced plans to introduce upgrades across its 125-160cc motorcycle range as it aims to reinforce its presence in one of India’s most competitive two-wheeler segments. The company shared the update while reporting its financial results for the April-June quarter.

According to Bajaj Auto, its performance in the sporty motorcycle category remained strong during the quarter, supported by updates introduced across the Pulsar lineup. The company said these product changes contributed to market share gains and expects the upcoming enhancements in the 125-160cc category to further improve its competitive position.

In its earnings statement, Bajaj Auto noted that the Pulsar, Avenger and Dominar brands all recorded double-digit year-on-year growth, while the sports motorcycle segment expanded by around 50% during the quarter.

The company, however, did not specify which motorcycles will receive the planned updates. It also did not confirm whether the revisions will extend across its entire 125-160cc portfolio or only selected models, nor did it announce a launch timeline.

Bajaj Auto currently offers motorcycles in this segment under the Pulsar range, along with the Freedom motorcycle. Earlier, in its annual report, the manufacturer had outlined its strategy of strengthening its position in the domestic 125cc-plus motorcycle market during the current financial year. Alongside this, it plans to continue expanding the Chetak electric scooter business, grow the KTM and Triumph premium motorcycle brands, and increase exports despite ongoing global economic and supply chain challenges.

The company is also working on expanding production capacity for its electric vehicles and premium motorcycles while exploring alternative sourcing strategies and supporting KTM’s long-term financial recovery.

The announcement coincides with Bajaj Auto’s strongest-ever quarterly financial performance. During the April-June period, revenue from operations increased 37% year-on-year to ₹17,244 crore, while profit after tax rose 42% to ₹2,983 crore. EBITDA grew 45% to ₹3,596 crore, with the operating margin improving to 20.9%.

Vehicle sales also reached a record level during the quarter. Bajaj Auto sold 1.44 million vehicles, marking a 29% increase over the same period last year. Two-wheeler sales climbed 29% to 1.22 million units, commercial vehicle sales grew 33% to 215,699 units, domestic two-wheeler volumes increased 11%, and exports rose 52%, resulting in the company’s highest-ever quarterly export volumes.
