Bikes To Flaunt SKF’s StopGo System

SKF India, one of the component majors, is all set to bag the status of being the first supplier of start-stop technology for two-wheelers. This Stop-Go system would be an automatic start-stop function which can be added to the two-wheelers already running on the roads. The company is in plans to further develop it in a way such that the system would be able to offer anti-lock braking system (ABS) and also tyre pressure monitoring. The company claims that the new solution would lower the carbon dioxide emissions and also improve fuel economy.

The StopGo system would be customized as a ready-to-fit system. It will be assembled by the OEMs. The system would be made in such a way that it can be implemented in existing bikes. The system will have the capability to shut off the engine when the two-wheeler stops at a signal. This shut off will happen though a predetermined but programmable time set-up. Once, the signal turns green, simply turned the throttle to start the engine. The company has already tested this system in few motorcycles like the TVS Apache, Bajaj Pulsar and Hero Karizma.

Talking about the technicality of this system, StopGo is a three-in-one integrated sensor-bearing solution. It will perform the bearing function, speed sensing as well as the stop-start function. The speed sensing function will also provide normal speed data for digital tachometers. The unit is so seamless and can be fitted into the hub of the front wheel. It will be connected by a plug-and-play connector to a mating connector which is in turn connected to the stop-start function. We can expect to see this system on bikes very soon, perhaps, before the end of this year.
