BMW will launch a more powerful X3 M Sport Pro variant in India
BMW will introduce a new variant of the X3 SUV in India on February 16, 2026. Called the X3 30 xDrive M Sport Pro, this version will sit above the existing petrol and diesel trims and will be locally assembled at the brand’s Chennai plant. Pre-bookings are slated to begin on January 30. With this update, the X3 range will gain a more performance-oriented option that is expected to feature the brand’s M Sport Pro cosmetic and equipment package.
While BMW has not confirmed the India-spec technical data, the model is likely to use the same 2.0-litre twin-turbo petrol engine offered overseas, where it produces 255 HP and is paired with an 8-speed Steptronic automatic gearbox sending power to all four wheels. This setup delivers a claimed 0-100 km/hr time of 6 seconds. In comparison, the current India range comprises the 190 HP petrol xDrive 20 and the 197 HP diesel xDrive 20d, with 0-100 km/hr times of 8.5 seconds and 7.7 seconds respectively.
The upcoming variant will differ visually and in features through the M Sport Pro package. Although BMW hasn’t detailed the India-specific additions, the package is expected to include sportier exterior trims, enhanced interior touches and additional convenience or performance-oriented equipment over the standard M Sport pack currently offered on the xDrive 20 and xDrive 20d.
In terms of features, the new variant is expected to retain equipment seen on the existing trims. These include dual-integrated displays, a head-up display, a Harman Kardon audio setup, a wireless charger and a panoramic sunroof. Safety and driver assistance tech should also carry forward unchanged. Given its output and positioning, the X3 30 xDrive M Sport Pro is expected to command a premium over today’s prices, which sit between Rs. 72.10 lakhs and Rs. 73.20 lakhs (ex-showroom).
Once launched, the new variant will compete with other luxury midsize SUVs including the Mercedes-Benz GLC, Audi Q5 and Land Rover Discovery Sport. With more power and a sportier appearance package, BMW is positioned to expand the range for buyers interested in a more dynamic version of the X3.
