BYD developing India-specific EV model, launch timeline yet undisclosed
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has confirmed that it is developing a new model specifically tailored for the Indian market. The announcement was made by Stella Li, Executive Vice President of the company, during interactions on the sidelines of the World Governments Summit in Dubai.
Li stated that engineers at BYD’s headquarters in Shenzhen are currently engaged in designing the India-focused product. She indicated that the company sees stronger potential in the Indian market and acknowledged that additional effort will be required to accelerate overseas growth, with India forming a key part of that strategy.
While speculation has previously suggested that BYD could establish a local assembly facility in India, Li dismissed such reports. She clarified that the company’s immediate priority is centred on product development and market strategy rather than setting up domestic manufacturing operations in the near term.
At present, no details have been shared regarding the segment, specifications or expected launch timeline of the upcoming India-specific model. Further clarity is likely to emerge closer to its official unveiling.
