Citroen C3 Sporty Launch To Take Place Next Year In India

The compact SUV is expected to be very affordable

India launch of the Citroen C3 Sporty has been pushed to 2022

The launch of the much-anticipated Citroen C3 Sporty is likely happen in India next year, while its unveil should happen before the end of 2021.

Until now, the French carmaker was expected to launch the car around festive season this year, but, the timeline seems to have been reversed.

Since the launch of the C3 Sporty is a rather big event for the firm, it is currently said to be working on expansion of its sales and service network and also on the product’s introduction.

To be made in India and heavily localised, the first model of Citroen’s C-Cubed programme (cars produced under which will cater to emerging markets) will be underpinned by the Common Modular Platform (CMP).

Scale model images of the compact SUV, which surfaced online in May, have provided a clear-cut idea as to how the final product will look like.

A hatchback version of the C3 Sporty is also on the cards

The styling of the vehicle is modern and lots of design cues have been borrowed from other models from the carmaker’s range. However, it is also clear that Citroen has reduced costs in some aspects like the fact that flap-type door handles have been used, while a sunroof and rear windscreen wiper are noticeable by their absence.

Of course, the final design could differ by a small margin and when it comes to details about the complete list of features, they would be revealed either when the Citroen C3 India launch takes place, or closer to the launch.

Fortunately, the C3 Sporty will be on the affordable spectrum of the compact SUV class (think Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger) and it will come powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine which will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, while an automatic, a DCT at that, is also rumoured to be on the cards.
