Citroen C3X – New Crossover Sedan Planned For India

The new crossover sedan will create a new segment in India

Citroen C3X to create a new crossover sedan segment in India

Citroen is preparing to introduce a brand-new crossover sedan, called the C3X (code: CC22), to the Indian market in 2024. The C3X will be the third vehicle based on Citroen’s India-specific CMP modular platform, following the C3 hatchback and the upcoming C3 Aircross SUV.

The C3X will have a sedan body type but with high ground clearance and rugged styling elements to make it a practical version of a sedan. It will compete in the C-segment sedan space that includes the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia. It will offer a unique crossover sedan concept inspired by Citroen’s larger C4X and C5X models available in Europe.

The front profile will take inspiration from the C3 Aircross. It will get a sloping roofline to integrate with notchback-style tailgate. SUV-like elements will include high ground clearance, large alloy wheels and rugged plastic cladding. The C3X is expected to be around 4.4 meters in length, with a wheelbase similar to the C3 Aircross SUV.

Citroen is emphasising cost reduction with high localisation of components and sharing parts with the other models. The C3X is expected to feature interior elements shared with the C3 Aircross, including a fully digital instrument cluster, 10-inch infotainment system, dashboard, steering wheel, seating and HVAC controls.

The C3X will be built on the modular CMP platform, tailored for Indian conditions. It will likely be powered by a 1.2-litre, 110 HP turbocharged petrol engine. An all-electric version of the C3X is also planned, expected to be introduced around six months after the launch of the petrol-powered variant.

The ICE variant of the C3 Aircross is scheduled for launch by July-August, with the electric version anticipated in February 2024. The C3X is expected to debut around July 2024, followed by the electric variant in January or February 2025.
