Datsun has been pulled up by the advertising council for misleading advertisements.

Datsun, which comes under Nissan, has been pulled up by the advertising council for publishing misleading advertisements about its recent product the redi-GO. The action was taken at a complaint filed with the Consumer Complaint Council (CCC) of Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) for a misleading advertisement.

The manufacturer’s claim of ‘Datsun redi-GO starting from Rs 2.39 lakhs’ was found to be misleading by implication by the council. According to the council, the claim was not substantiated with supporting evidence of genuine customers who have availed of this offer.”

The Datsun redi-GO was launched in the market with a 800cc 3-cylinder engine putting out 54 PS of power and 72 Nm of torque. The tall boy hatchback gets segment first features like LED DRLs and others. It was launched at a price of Rs. 2.39 lakh(ex-showroom, Delhi) and comes in five variants. Recently, the limited edition redi-GO sport was also launched in the market.

The advertising council has also claimed that all emails sent to Nissan India in this regard have remained unanswered. Other manufacturers should learn from these incidents and should be extra careful while promoting their products in the market.
