Datsun To Launch redi-GO Hatchback In 2015

Nissan has given the Datsun redi-GO hatchback the green light for production, a source close to the development revealed to us recently. The redi-GO was showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo and looks quite appealing, receiving positive feedback from show-goers. Although the concept version had many attractive elements, the production model will be toned down significantly. The redi-GO made its global debut in India as the vehicle is of prime importance in emerging market like ours. India will be the manufacturing base for the redi-GO.

Nissan will position the redi-GO above the GO hatchback, pricing it between Rs. 4 to 5 lakhs. The redi-GO is a tall boy hatchback which will fill in the large gap between the GO and the Micra. Nissan wants to boost volumes in India and the hatchback segment is where sales are the maximum, thus multiple small cars will be offered by the Japanese company. The redi-GO will feature ample amount of space along with a good view of the road making it convenient to pilot the car in congested city conditions.

Powering the Datsun redi-GO will be the same 1.2-litre, 3-pot petrol motor which outputs 68 PS of power and 104 Nm of torque. This engine can also be offered with a CVT gearbox although for cost reasons Nissan will make do with the 5-speed manual. Not in consideration currently but Nissan might also opt to plonk in the fantastic 1.5-litre dCi diesel engine in Datsun cars. Even alternate fuel variants might be launched. The Datsun redi-GO will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R and Hyundai i10 in the Indian market.
