Ford EcoSport Recall For The Third Time, 48,700 Units Affected

Ford EcoSport Black Edition

Ford India has issued a voluntary recall of its EcoSport compact SUV to fix some issues related to the brake and fuel lines, and rear-seat bolts. Ford says it has not received any customer complaints, accidents or injuries related to these issues.

The EcoSport has been the sole breadwinner product for the Blue Oval lately

The Ford EcoSport is a vehicle which combines comfort, style and performance in a beautiful way and thus has found place in many homes. The EcoSport is the only successful vehicle from Ford’s portfolio for some time, and lately it has been feeling the heat from increased competition in the form of the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Mahindra TUV300. Therefore, Ford is not in a mood to take any chances with the SUV and has decided to issue a voluntary recall of a substantial number of EcoSport vehicles to fix various issues related to brake and fuel lines and rear-seat bolts.

Ford India has issued a voluntary recall for 48,000 EcoSport diesel SUVs for installing a new bundle clip on the fuel and brake lines. The vehicles in question have been manufactured between April 2013 and June 2014. An additional 700 EcoSport SUVs have also been called back in order to check and replace bolts, installed in 60/40 rear folding seat, that do not meet Ford’s material specification and potentially causing the bolts to break. These vehicles are manufactured as recently as January 2016 and February 2016.

This is a voluntary recall announcement by Ford and the company says it has not received any customer complaints, accidents or injuries related to these issues. Ford India is asking owners of the affected EcoSport vehicles to contact their local Ford dealers and assure that the necessary operation will be done with no charge to the owner. The EcoSport was previously recalled in November 2015 where 16,500 units were called back to fix a potentially faulty part of the rear suspension.

The Ford EcoSport has been the saving grace for the American company for quite some time now. With the Figo twins generating some less-than-encouraging response in the market, it is upto the recently launched EcoSport facelift to bring in the numbers and fend off constantly increasing competition. The Ford EcoSport retails for Rs. 6.99 – Rs. 9.93 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
