Ford’s 1-Litre EcoBoost Engine Fits In A Suitcase

Ford’s 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine has already gained immense popularity. This 3-cylinder petrol engine has already won the 2012 International Engine of the year award and will see its India debut in the EcoSport compact SUV. In Europe, this 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine is already powering a slew of vehicles, including the D-segment Mondeo. Ford is expected to power a range of cars with this compact motor and we could see the Fiesta and Figo receiving this powerplant in the future.

We all know how tight airport security is, especially in the United States of America. Now Ford went ahead and proved how small the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine really is by putting the engine block in a suitcase and carrying it as an inflight baggage. The 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine is yet to be announced for the American market and will make its debut State-side at the upcoming Los Angeles Motor Show later this month. It might power the American Fiesta.

Ford unveiled the EcoBoost engine in India at the 2012 Auto Expo. This 1.0-litre, turbocharged motor produces 118 BHP of power and 170 Nm of torque between 1300-4500 RPM. This small capacity EcoBoost engine has an OverBoost function which increases torque output to 200 Nm at high RPMs. The OverBoost function is available for a select period of time and the ECU disables it for cooling after frequent usage. The Ford EcoSport will be powered by this 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine and is expected to be launched in India by March 2013.
