Hero Passion 110 iSmart Under Development, Caught Testing

Hero is testing the new Passion Pro motorcycle with the i3S iSmart technology from the Splendor while the newly developed 111cc engine could power the commuter offering.

The Passion will be the second offering from Hero to get iSmart technology

Hero MotoCorp will soon introduce its iSmart technology on the Passion Pro commuter motorcycle if the latest set of spy shots emerged online are to be believed. The spy images reveal a new small-capacity motorcycle being tested under heavy camouflage and is equipped with a blue toggle switch for the iSmart feature on the right hand side switchgear, similar to the one seen on the Splendor iSmart. It is believed that the camouflaged mule is a new variant of the Passion Pro, Hero’s second best selling commuter motorcycle.

Hero introduced the iSmart i3S (idle stop and start system) on the Splendor back in 2013 which helps the motorcycle achieve higher fuel efficiency and lower emissions by switching off the engine at a stop and is automatically turned on when the clutch is depressed. Usually seen on cars, the Splendor was the first motorcycle globally to get the technology. Given the popularity of the Passion series, it only makes sense to offer the same on the motorcycle.

The spy shots show the Hero Passion iSmart test mule with 5-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in skinny tyres, split grab rails, drum brakes on the front and rear wheels and an exhaust muffler similar to the one seen on the Glamour 125. Mechanically, the biggest update is expected to be the new 111cc engine powering the commuter motorcycle that first made its debut on the Hero Duet and Maestro Edge scooters last month.

The 111cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine has been completely developed by Hero and its partners and will be replacing the Honda sourced unit that has been powering the lineup for years. The motor is capable of producing 8.43 PS of power and 8.30 Nm of torque on the scooters and similar power figures can be expected on the new Passion Pro as well. With the model currently under heavy testing, Hero is likely to showcase the Passion Pro iSmart at the 2016 Auto Expo or at a special event prior to the expo with a host of updated offerings.
