Honda won’t offer diesel engine in the current gen City after BS6 deadline

Honda City is one of the most popular sedans in the Indian market. It has been the longest running name in the C-segment sedan space in India. The City is currently offered with both petrol and diesel engines but the latter is getting discontinued soon.

The diesel engine was introduced in the 4th generation City, which is the current one on sale. While the petrol engine will continue to be on sale as it has been updated to comply with BS6 emission norms, the diesel engine won’t be updated.

The Japanese carmaker will directly introduce the BS6 compliant 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine with the new generation model that was revealed recently. The 5th generation Honda City is expected to hit the Indian shores by mid-2020.

The new Honda City will come with a new design language, new interiors and more features. The petrol engine of the 5th generation City will also get mild-hybrid technology offering better fuel efficiency.
