Honda Mobilio Could Be Discontinued In India [Rumour]

Honda Mobilio Long Term Test

Honda could discontinue the Mobilio MPV from the Indian market due to falling sales and to make way for the upcoming BR-V.

If discontinued, the Mobilio will have the shortest lifespan in the Honda portfolio

Honda may have tasted a lot of success with the City, but the case is not similar with its other vehicles. The Mobilio MPV was launched a couple of years back and it sold in average numbers in the initial few months while sales rapidly started to decline later on. The major reason for this is the fact that its direct competitor, the Maruti Ertiga was offered at a much better price point.

Over the past many months, we have seen sales of the Honda Mobilio dwindling. In March 2015, the vehicle sold 3049 units but in the next month itself, sales fell down to 689 units. For the next couple of months, sales hovered near the 1000 units mark and then rapidly fell to below 500 units which is pretty bad.

In January 2016, the Honda Mobilio sold just 441 units. At the recent Auto Expo, Honda showcased the BR-V which is going to be launched in India in the coming months. It is now rumoured that Honda is planning to discontinue the Mobilio due to low sales (only 226 units sold last month). Another reason for this could be the fact that the automaker wants to create some space for the BR-V, which has high hopes pinned to it.

The BR-V will mark Honda’s entry into the affordable SUV segment. This segment has seen a lot of demand over the past couple of years and the trend is likely to continue. The BR-V is a very important product for Honda and the automaker needs to position and price it competitively. The Honda BR-V will be competing with the Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano.
