Honda Motorcycles & Scooters India has made it clear that its future in India won’t be all-electric. While the company is expanding its EV lineup, it believes flex-fuel vehicles will continue to play an equally important role. According to Honda, the future of mobility is “multi-fuel and multi-pathway,” meaning different technologies will suit different riders instead of there being one perfect solution for everyone.
To highlight this approach, HMSI recently showcased the ADV160 Flex-Fuel scooter in India. It’s the first flex-fuel scooter the company has displayed here and can run on petrol as well as ethanol blends of up to E85. The best part is that riders don’t have to do anything differently, as the engine automatically adjusts to the fuel being used. The ADV160 is powered by a 156.9cc liquid-cooled engine producing 16.3 HP and 14.9 Nm.
Honda also stressed that flex-fuel vehicles are not replacing electric scooters and motorcycles. Instead, both technologies will exist together. Alongside the ADV160, the company also showcased several upcoming electric two-wheelers, making it clear that it wants to give customers more choices depending on their needs and usage.
The company isn’t new to flex-fuel technology either. Honda has been selling flex-fuel motorcycles in countries like Brazil for many years, and it now plans to use that experience in India as ethanol-based fuels become more common. This also supports the country’s push towards cleaner and more sustainable mobility.
While Honda is yet to confirm when its flex-fuel models will go on sale in India, one thing is certain—the brand doesn’t believe electric vehicles alone are the future. Instead, Honda sees petrol, ethanol and electric vehicles all playing an important role in India’s two-wheeler market over the coming years.
