Husqvarna 401 Twins Put On Hold For India

The Vitpilen 401 is a neo-retro cafe racer offering between the 401 twins

Company officials have confirmed that Husqvarna won’t be launching the 401 twins in India anytime soon. The Svartpilen 401 and the Vitpilen 401 are the elder siblings of the 250 iterations which are already available here.

While the Svartpilen and the Vitpilen 401 were spotted testing recently, it was probably because the production of the aforementioned bikes takes place at Bajaj’s Chakan plant since 2019.

Both bikes are neo-retro iterations of the KTM Duke 390 and share several components with it. The styling is very Husqvarna-like and similar to the Husqvarna 250s, but the 401s feature wire-spoke wheels only unlike the 250 twins.

The Svartpilen 401 and Vitpilen 401 use trellis frames like the KTM Duke 390, but with a different sub-frame to give them Husqvarna’s standout minimalistic design. The engine and power output are the same as the Duke too, and the 401 twins make 43 BHP and 37 Nm of torque.

We think Husqvarna should introduce the 401 twins in India, as the production process is highly local, which can result in affordable products. Prices even lower than their KTM cousins can result in a more welcome product, and it is practically possible, as we saw it happen with the 250 offerings.

Also, even though officials have declined the launch of the 401s as of now, we think it is still very well on the table. After all, if priced lower than the KTM Duke 390, the Svartpilen 401 and the Vitpilen 401 will make an excellent option in the Indian market!
