Husqvarna Unveils Three Concepts At EICMA 2014

The Husqvarna concepts pack in a lot of style coupled with potent underpinnings coming from parent company KTM, which makes it even more desirable for the Indian market.

The 701 Supermoto will go on sale across Europe by the end of 2015

KTM CEO owned bike maker Husqvarna has unveiled three new concepts at the ongoing 2014 EICMA Show in Milan inclusive of two Scramblers and one Supermoto bikes that showcase the company’s heritage with a more modern approach. Starting with the production ready 701 Supermoto, the production ready model is a more refined version of the 701 Concept that was showcased at the same event last year and shares several parts with KTM motorcycles. The 701 Supermoto uses a 690cc 4-stroke motor producing around 67 HP and comes with an overwhelming power to weight ratio as it weighs just 145 kgs.

The Husqvarna 701 Supermoto also gets APTC slipper clutch, ABS brakes, WP suspension and ride-by-wire with different riding modes and will be a breeze for commuting through urban areas as well as the winding roads outside of town. While the model is production ready, the 701 Supermoto will not be reaching the showrooms before the end of 2015 across Europe. The company has not disclosed the pricing as yet.

The 401 Svartpilen could be a viable alternative to the Ducati Scrambler

In addition to the 701 Supermoto, Husqvarna has also lined up the Vitpilen and the Svartpilen scrambler concepts that basically mean ‘White Arrow’ and ‘Black Arrow’ in Swedish respectively. Starting with the 401 Svartpilen concept, the model goes back into time illustrating the design cues from old Husqvarna models with minimalistic styling and retro styled fuel tank design. Husqvarna has provided several spots for luggage storage and rides on off-road tyres that certainly up the practicality quotient on this scrambler model. A special mention on the LED headlight that is solely a reason enough for the concept to make it to production.

The 401 Vitpilen Concept comes with a minimalistic design approach

The 401 Vitipilen Concept on the other hand has been inspired from the 1953 Husqvarna Silverpilen and comes with a less is more design approach. With a minimalistic design theme and exposed mechanicals, the Vitipilen concept definitely looks gorgeous, especially with hints of a cafe racer thrown courtesy of the rear set foot pegs and low clip-on bars. Much like the 701 Supermoto, both the Vitpilen and Svartpilen concepts share the same underpinnings borrowed from KTM sporting a Trellis frame, while power comes from a 373cc single-cylinder engine producing 43 HP.

If you haven’t guessed it yet, the scrambler concepts are very much based on the Duke 390 and also come with the WP suspension and Brembo braking components. While no word on the production of both the concepts has been out yet, we do expect them to make it to production, if the 701 Supermoto is anything to go by. With the fan following the Duke 390 has in India, these models will definitely find takers especially with the sorted underpinnings. The company will manufacture the models at Bajaj Auto’s Chakan facility in India.
