Hyundai Creta Exterior Sketch

The Creta will be Hyundai’s first offering in India’s compact SUV segment and will be locking horns against the Maruti S-Cross that will also be launched in July this year.

Having unveiled the model in sketches yesterday, Hyundai India is gearing up to launch its first compact SUV christened as the ‘Creta’ on 21st July in the country. Ahead of the official launch, the compact SUV has entered its final phase of testing and the automaker has shipped out few prototypes of the India spec version to South Korea and Mexico for testing purpose. An extremely important product for the company, Hyundai is making sure to leave no stone unturned for the product to be a success. Incidentally, the manufacturer also exports the made-in-India Grand i10 to Mexico from its Chennai facility.

With the growing popularity of SUVs, Hyundai was one of the last mainstream manufacturers that were absent in the segment. Expected to pose as one of the biggest threats to the dominance of the Renault Duster, the Hyundai Creta will help the Korean car maker to further consolidate its position in the Indian market. Originally scheduled to be launched in August this year, the arrival of Maruti’s S-Cross in July made Hyundai reschedule its plans for the compact SUV. This will only make the segment even more interesting as two of the country’s leading car makers will make their debut in the compact SUV space.

Coming to the specifications, the Hyundai Creta will be powered by 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engine options that are currently found on the Verna, paired to manual and automatic transmissions. Retaining a flowing profile courtesy of the fluidic sculpture 2.0 design philosophy, the Creta will offer sharp lines coupled with plastic cladding all over for an aggressive yet modern stance, as compared to the butch styling seen on the Duster. On the inside, the modern and comfortable details seen on other Hyundai’s will be retained including a host of bells and whistles.

To come as a 5-seater, Hyundai could offer AWD right from the start on the Creta
