Hyundai Eon With 1.0-Litre Petrol Engine Launched, Rs. 3.85 Lakh Price

Hyundai Eon Auto Expo

We saw this one coming. Hyundai has finally updated the entry-level hatchback Eon with a far better 1.0-litre petrol engine. Dealerships across the country have already commenced the bookings for the 1.0-litre model, while deliveries are expected sometime next month. However as we speculated earlier, the 1.0-litre engine is only available on the mid-variant Magna, while the base D-Lite variant will continue to be offered with the older 814cc engine.

The Eon Magna variant’s cabin gets the essential bells and whistles like air-conditioning and front power windows. The Magna variant does miss out on the music system though. On the outside you get 13-inch steel wheels coupled with full wheel covers as well as keyless entry. The new 1.0-litre 3-cylinder engine produces 65 BHP and 95 Nm of torque and is also available on the European spec i10. This motor is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. While the official figures aren’t out yet, expect the engine to deliver fuel efficiency of over 15 km/l on the Eon.

The Eon’s major drawback was the 0.8-litre engine that felt largely unde-powered for a well equipped car. Sadly, there are no exterior changes and the car will continue to be offered with the same design. With the launch of the Datsun GO, Hyundai is feeling the heat coming to the Eon. Certainly, buyers who were waiting for a well equipped entry-level model can now look at the Eon as well. Prices for the 1.0-litre Magna variant start at Rs. 3.85 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai). Whether Hyundai is offering the 1.0-litre mill with LPG is yet to be known.
