Hyundai India EV Lineup
The Kona Electric has not managed to sell in exceedingly good numbers

At present, the EV lineup of Hyundai India has only 1 car

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has announced that its EV lineup will have 6 battery electric models by 2028. The brand currently has 1 EV – the Kona Electric – in its Indian portfolio.

The new EVs will cater to multiple segments, including the mass market and mass premium ones, says the Korean carmaker adding that its upcoming electric cars will come in different body styles. Of course, some of these will also be SUVs.

Many of these new EVs from Hyundai are set to be underpinned by its Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), a dedicated architecture that comprises the battery, motor and power electric system. It was showcased globally at the fag end of 2020.

Hyundai’s electric cars will also have 24-hour roadside assistance

Using E-GMP, Hyundai will be able to develop different types of vehicles that share similar components, feature a flat floor and a spacious cabin with a sliding console and sliding second row seats.

The models can be equipped with a battery (with 8 mounting points) of up to 77.4 kWh capacity and will come with both 2- and 4-wheel drive and a top speed of up to 260 km/hr.

Hyundai says its EV roadmap will “breathe life into the electrification ecosystem in India” with major focus placed on localisation of EVs.

Moreover, the automaker will also work toward providing different charging solutions including setting up charging facility at its dealer network and forming partnerships to instal public charging stations.
