Hyundai is planning to introduce an MPV in the market soon. In 2012, Hyundai did show the Hexa MPV in concept form but the plans were later shelved. With the MPV segment becoming more mature now, the carmaker is once again gaining interest in the segment.

The MPV segment is currently witnessing a growth in sales. Maruti Eritga is already enjoying consistent sales of 7000-7500 units for the past few months and seeing a clear demand in the segment, the carmaker has recently launched the more premium version of the Ertiga in form of the XL6. With the launch of the Mahindra Marazzo and the Maruti Suzuki XL6, the 6-seater and 7-seater segment is heating up nicely and Hyundai wants a piece of that pie.

The new MPV will directly rival the Maruti Ertiga and is expected to be based on the Hyundai Venue compact SUV. To keep the cost low, not just the platform but the powertrain is also expected to be shared between them. The Venue is available with the 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre petrol options and a 1.4-litre diesel option. The 1.0-litre version is also available with a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox. The MPV is also expected to share a similar configuration.

Recently, Hyundai has been on an onslaught of launches with the Venue compact SUV, then the electric Kona and now the most recent Grand i10 NIOS. The company has lined up the launch of the updated Elantra sedan and the awaited next-gen i20 and the next-gen Creta as well. The company is planning an aggressive approach to gain market share and will not be leaving any stone unturned.
