Hyundai Motor Company and TVS Motor Company have formalised their collaboration to develop and bring the E3W electric three-wheeler concept into production. The two companies have signed a joint development agreement, marking a significant step toward entering India’s rapidly growing last-mile mobility space.
Under this partnership, both brands will jointly engineer the vehicle, combining their respective strengths. Hyundai will take charge of design and styling, while TVS will contribute its expertise in electric vehicle platforms, manufacturing and distribution. The project is aimed at creating a purpose-built mobility solution tailored for Indian operating conditions.
TVS is expected to handle production and sales in the domestic market, with potential exports also being considered in the future. The companies have indicated that India will be the first market for this product, given the country’s position as the largest three-wheeler market globally. A strong emphasis is being placed on localisation, with most components likely to be sourced and manufactured within the country.
The E3W concept, previously showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, reflects a modern reinterpretation of traditional auto-rickshaws. It features a longer wheelbase compared to conventional models, offering improved cabin space. The concept also incorporates a slightly wider track and adaptive ground clearance, which could be beneficial in varied road conditions, including waterlogged urban environments.
From a technical standpoint, the concept includes features such as independent rear suspension and front-mounted digital display panels capable of showing information or messages. However, it remains unclear how many of these elements will make it to the final production version.
The vehicle is expected to support multiple applications through flexible interior layouts, ranging from passenger transport to cargo movement and emergency services. Before launch, the product will undergo testing, localisation adjustments and certification to meet regulatory requirements in India.
While the E3W is moving closer to production, there is currently no confirmation regarding the future of the E4W concept that was showcased alongside it. For Hyundai, this project represents a strategic entry into the micro-mobility segment, with a focus on affordability and practicality in a new category for the brand.
