India’s Premier RiO Gets A Facelift In China

Premier Rio, India’s first compact SUV, could be updated soon. China’s Zotye Nomad, which is rebadged as Rio in India has been given a complete refresh. The car has been given a much modern and better looking design with improvements to the interior as well. Mechanically though, there are no changes to be seen and the vehicle should continue to be powered by the same set of engines, which do a decent job of lugging around this highly outdated beast.

The Premier Rio has a very contemporary looking front end with new headlamps, grille, bumpers and fog lamps giving a more attractive face to the car, which was sort of quirky earlier. Viewing in profile, the design has more curves and angles making the Rio look more muscular and modern. The rear view mirrors get integrated blinkers. The car gets new graphics on the side too. The rear end though remains almost the same with slightly reworked bumpers and rear fog lamps with outdated looking vertical tail lamps. The tail gate mounted spare wheel though adds character.

The interiors of the Nomad, or Rio, is completely reworked and looks much more modern than the outgoing car. As expected the compact SUV gets lots of beige, but unlike most cars, the upper portion of the dashboard and rest of the interior is beige and the lower portion in black. But it does look much better than the earlier grey. The centre console and instruments too have been updated and look sophisticated with lot of silver trim pieces accentuating the black and beige.
