January 2020 Compact SUV Sales; Brezza Continues Its Reign

The Ford EcoSport outsold the Tata Nexon and the Mahindra XUV300 to gain the 3rd spot.

Compact SUV sales have been hit as more and more buyers are opting for mid-size SUVs. In December 2019, the segment had recorded a growth of a stunning 70%, whereas, in January 2020, the growth stands at a mere 2%. The introduction of new entrants might turn the game around. Nissan has announced a compact SUV, moreover, Kia Sonnet and Skoda Kamiq are to be launched soon as well.

Coming to the report card of January 2020, the Maruti Brezza has maintained its top slot for the 5th consecutive month after selling 10,134 units. It recorded a negative YoY of 23% as Maruti had sold 13,172 units of Brezza in January 2019.

Sales of the Hyundai Venue have dropped as it sold 9521 units in December 2019, whereas, it sold 6733 units in January 2020. The Ford EcoSport stands at the 3rd position after clocking 3852 units in sales. It recorded degrowth of 15% but if compared to sales of the previous months, the number is a good rise as it had sold 1727 units in December 2019.

The 4th car in the line is the Tata Nexon. The Nexon lost its position to the Ford Ecosoprt selling only 3382 units. It also experienced degrowth of 34%. The Mahindra XUV300 observed an increase in sales after reporting a decline for the past few months. Mahindra sold 3360, 2132 and 2224 units of XUV300 in January 2020, December 2019 and November 2019, respectively.

Next up is the Mahindra TUV300 which sold just 649 units. It recorded a negative YoY of 57% as it sold 1506 units in January 2019. Nevertheless, last on the list is the Honda WR-V selling just 116 units.
