Kawasaki W175 Spotted In Pune As Road Tests Continue

The bike has the old school commuter design

The Kawasaki W175 spotted recently looks ready to enter production here

The Kawasaki W175 has been spotted in Pune as the bike manufacturer continues road-testing the motorcycle in the country.

Several months have rolled by since a development mule of the entry-level Kawasaki bike was last seen in India.

The biggest difference this time around is that the firm has covered the fuel tank, side panels and fenders of the bike, but, the styling of the vehicle gives its identity away.

That said, nothing seems to have changed in all these months as the motorcycle continues to sport a round headlamp, teardrop fuel tank, well-padded seat and old school tail light and indicators.

It continues to ride on wire-spoked wheels that are wrapped with narrow tyres and even has a analogue instrument cluster and a sturdy grab rail.

Apart from the shiny rims, the motorcycle looks exactly like the model sold abroad, replete with rubber fork gaiters, and circular mirrors.

The Kawasaki W175 spotted on test is powered by a 177cc air-cooled motor. In southeast Asian markets, it is offered in carburetted form with power and torque outputs of 13.05 HP and 13.2 Nm.

It will also come with a peashooter exhaust

However, in India, the engine will be fuel-injected to meet BS6 emissions regulations and thus, the engine could put out more power.

It is not as if the bike weighs a tonne (it comes under 130 kg) and the power figure should be sufficient for in-town commutes. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed transmission.

Sporting telescopic front fork and dual rear shocks, the Kawasaki W175 spotted on test had a 220 mm disc brake at the front and 110 mm drum setup at the back. As a result, it will come with single-channel ABS.

Expected to be launched in India around the festive season this year, the retro-style commuter will likely cost between Rs. 1.25 lakhs and Rs. 1.40 lakhs (ex-showroom) despite being highly localised.
