Kawasaki W175 To Be Launched In India By 2021

Another old-school bike is headed our way folks

Kawasaki is going to launch the W175, its smallest W product, in India within the first half of next year. Also, the motorcycle would become the most affordable offering from the Japanese firm in our country.

As can be seen from the images, the W175 has the styling of a classic motorcycle. The round headlight, large mudguards, simple tank, flat seat, spoke wheels and peashooter exhaust all give it that unabashed old-school bike look.

Even the instrument cluster is basic and analogue. But, it shows the necessary readings nonetheless. Similarly, there is nothing fancy about the frame, which is of the semi-double cradle type connected with a box-section swingarm.

Engine-wise, the W175 comes with a 177cc, 2-valve, air-cooled motor that makes a rather humble 13.05 HP and 13.2 Nm. It comes mated to a 5-speed transmission.

This however is the specs of the engine that is sold in southeast Asian markets such as Indonesia and Philippines, where it comes in carburetted form. While coming to India, it will have to be BS6-compliant and thus will have fuel injection and possibly more power.

Suspension-wise, there are telescopic forks upfront and twin shocks at the rear, while braking duties are done by a 220 mm disc at the front and 110 mm drum at the back.

Again, to be able to be retailed in India, the bike will have to come with ABS. However, it is not known if it will be a single-channel option or if Kawasaki will add a disc to the rear and make it a dual-channel system.

When the Kawasaki W175 India launch takes place, the motorcycle is expected to weigh only a bit more than the 126 kg the model sold overseas comes in at. But, the fuel tank capacity which is 13.5 litres, is expected to remain the same.

Reportedly the Kawasaki W175 will have up to 90 percent localisation levels and will cost between Rs. 1.25-1.40 lakhs (ex-showroom) in India. For example, the model sold in the Philippines is priced at Php 130,000 (Rs. 1.97 lakhs).
