Kia Showcases Future Flagship As EV9 Concept At LA Auto Show

The car has Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design language

The Kia EV9 Concept will be put into production in just over 2 years from now

Kia has recently showcased the EV9 Concept at the LA Auto Show. This concept will go on sale globally, with some changes, as a 2024 model and will become the Korean brand’s flagship electric vehicle (EV).

To be built on the Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the EV will have almost identical dimensions as the concept which measures 4930 mm long (wheelbase of 3100 mm), 2055 mm wide and 1790 mm tall.

Looks like the ultra-wide twin screen layout is here to stay

Visually, the car should look rather futuristic with a cutting-edge design to some and toy-like to others. It comes with a front end that is a digital version of the ‘Tiger Face’.

The LED lights are hidden, while there are LED DRLs present along with a wide lower air intake. Like many premium cars of this age, the lights will employ welcome patterns.

Along the sides, the car has a flat roof, wide haunches, and wheel arches that protrude even further. At the rear, the design is very plain. The car will, however, come with a large greenhouse though.

The seats use recycled wool fibres and plastic bottles, while the flooring uses recycled fishnets

Stepping inside through the suicide doors, one would see a very contemporary dashboard with a 27-inch display, an almost rectangular steering wheel without stalks, 3 row seats and panoramic sunroof.

While the seats are not covered with leather, they can swivel backwards in ‘Enjoy Mode’ (and the tailgate opens), and in ‘Pause Mode’ the first row alone rotates 180 degrees and the second row transforms into a table.

The concept also has retractable roof-rails and exterior cameras instead of ORVMs

The Kia EV9 Concept has a claimed range of 482 km on a single charge. The car sports a solar panel to be charged on the go and can also support ultra-fast charging, Kia says it only takes 30 minutes for its battery to be charged from 10 to 80 percent.

When the electric SUV goes on sale, it is expected to come in both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations and it is the 2-wheel drive model that will come with the longest range.

The car does have a similar profile to its cousin, the Hyundai Seven
