Kia Sorento Hybrid 7-Seater Spotted Testing In India, Launch In 2026

Kia Sorento Hybrid begins India testing ahead of expected 2026 market launch

The upcoming Kia Sorento Hybrid has been sighted testing in India for the first time, signalling that the three-row SUV is being prepared for a market introduction in 2026. The test vehicle, covered extensively in camouflage, was seen at a parking facility, offering the first clear look at its upright stance, large alloy wheels and a rotary-style gear selector inside the cabin. Positioned above the Seltos and Carens, the Sorento is likely to mark Kia’s entry into the premium family-SUV space.

Exterior Highlights

Even under heavy cladding, the Sorento’s shape points to a boxy design similar to the international model. The SUV is expected to feature vertical lighting elements, a broad rear profile and an overall silhouette that supports its three-row configuration. The test mule was seen with 235/55 R19 tyres, indicating that the India-bound version could get 19-inch alloys.

Design cues such as squared wheel arches, a tall bonnet and a flat tailgate suggest a strong road presence. Covered front sections hint at signature styling elements including T-shaped DRLs, a connected rear lamp setup and Kia’s latest Tiger Nose grille. Multiple sensor cutouts on the bumpers imply the presence of ADAS Level 2 features when the model goes on sale.

Interior and Features

A leaked image from the cabin confirms a rotary gear selector, typically offered with the hybrid powertrain globally. The India-spec Sorento is expected to mirror the international version’s premium interior, which includes a curved panoramic panel housing dual 12.3-inch displays, Kia’s ccNC infotainment system, OTA capability and connected-car features.

Premium equipment is likely to include ventilated front seats, soft-touch dashboard materials, multi-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting and a high-end Bose audio system on top versions. Safety tech may include smart cruise control, lane assist functions and enhanced collision-avoidance systems. With three rows of seating, multiple charging ports and wide cabin space, the Sorento aims to position itself as a comfort-oriented 7-seater.

Powertrain Expectations

Globally, the Sorento is sold with a mix of petrol, turbo-petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. In India, Kia is expected to focus primarily on the strong-hybrid variant based on the 1.6-litre turbo engine, aligning with growing interest in hybrid SUVs. A petrol-only version may also be considered, while a diesel option appears unlikely at this stage.

Positioning and Expected Pricing

The Sorento will be placed as a premium offering, targeting models such as the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq and MG Gloster. Prices are expected to fall in the Rs. 35 lakhs – Rs. 45 lakhs (ex-showroom) bracket depending on trim and powertrain choices. With testing underway, the SUV is expected to reach showrooms toward the end of 2026. The Sorento’s arrival will further expand Kia’s India portfolio as the brand gears up for several launches, including the upcoming new generation Seltos.
