Kia Syros EV Leaked Ahead Of Launch

The Kia Syros EV has been spotted undisguised ahead of its expected launch later this month, revealing several design and feature details. Dealers have started accepting unofficial bookings at select dealerships for a token amount of Rs. 25,000, although Kia India is yet to make an official announcement.

The Syros EV will become Kia India’s second model to transition from an internal combustion engine (ICE) platform to an electric powertrain. Visually, it retains much of the styling of the standard Syros, with only a few EV-specific changes.

At the front, the Syros EV features a slimmer closed-off grille and a slightly revised bumper design. Signature elements such as the vertically stacked LED headlamps and triangular bumper inserts have been carried over from the ICE version. Along the sides, the SUV continues with its familiar silhouette, including the thick B-pillar, rising window line and body cladding. It also gets a new set of dual-tone alloy wheels, which are expected to measure 17 inches. The test vehicle was also seen with flush front door handles in an extended position, hinting at a motorised opening function.

The rear design remains largely unchanged, with the only notable distinction being the ‘EV’ badge on the tailgate. The vertically positioned LED tail-lamps, high-mounted L-shaped lighting elements and black rear bumper have been retained.

Inside, the cabin closely resembles the petrol-powered Syros. The dashboard features dual digital displays for the infotainment system and instrument cluster, while physical controls for climate and media functions continue to be offered. The steering wheel now gets paddle shifters, likely for adjusting regenerative braking levels. The spotted vehicle also featured USB ports and a dash camera. Depending on the variant, the equipment list could include a panoramic sunroof, powered driver’s seat, ventilated front seats and rear seat ventilation. It remains unclear whether the Syros EV will offer an ADAS suite.

The Syros EV is expected to share its battery options with the recently introduced Carens Clavis EV. These include a 42 kWh battery pack for the standard-range version and a larger 51.4 kWh unit for higher variants. Claimed driving ranges are expected to be around 420 km and 520 km, respectively, based on ARAI estimates. Both battery packs are likely to be paired with a front-mounted electric motor, although power and torque figures have not yet been disclosed.

The Kia Syros EV is expected to be priced between Rs. 15 lakhs and Rs. 20 lakhs (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will compete in the compact electric SUV segment against rivals such as the Tata Nexon EV and MG Windsor EV.
