KTM 390 Range Likely To Continue In India Alongside Upcoming 350cc Models

KTM 390 models may continue alongside upcoming downsized 350cc motorcycles in India

The Bajaj Auto is reportedly planning to introduce new 350cc versions of several motorcycles currently positioned in the 400cc segment. These upcoming models are expected to coexist with the existing 399cc variants from KTM in the Indian market for the foreseeable future.

According to industry developments, motorcycles such as the KTM 390 Duke and KTM 390 Adventure could continue to be sold in their current form even after the arrival of the new 350cc iterations. This approach would allow customers to choose between two engine capacities within the same product line.

The move appears to be influenced by the recent GST changes affecting larger-capacity motorcycles. Two-wheelers above 350cc now attract a significantly higher tax rate of around 40 percent, compared to 18 percent for motorcycles at or below the 350cc threshold. By introducing 350cc versions, manufacturers can position these motorcycles in a lower tax bracket while potentially making them more accessible to buyers.

Apart from the KTM lineup, Bajaj is also expected to adapt motorcycles produced in partnership with Triumph Motorcycles to comply with the new tax structure. Models currently powered by 400cc-class engines, including the Triumph Speed 400 and Triumph Scrambler 400 X, are likely to transition to a smaller 350cc powertrain in India. The recently revealed Triumph Scrambler 400 XC (often referred to as a tracker-style model internationally) is also expected to enter the Indian market with a 350cc engine.

While the Triumph models may eventually be sold only with the new 350cc configuration, KTM’s strategy appears different. The brand is expected to keep both the 350cc and 399cc versions of the Duke and Adventure models available simultaneously. This will allow Bajaj to observe how buyers respond to the downsized options before making long-term decisions about the lineup.

The continued availability of the 390 models may also be linked to their strong reputation among enthusiasts. Over the years, the KTM 390 range has gained popularity for offering performance-focused motorcycles at relatively accessible price points. For many riders, the Duke and Adventure variants represent an entry point into higher-performance motorcycling.

Export considerations may also play a role in this decision. The current 390cc motorcycles are manufactured in India for several global markets, meaning production of these engines and models is expected to continue regardless of domestic changes.

For now, the company is likely to monitor customer demand and evaluate whether the 350cc models can eventually replace the existing 390cc motorcycles in the Indian market.
